Sinch and Huge NXTGN Partner To Drive South Africa’s MVNO Market
Huge NXTGN and Sinch bet high on local MVNO market.

Local telecoms company Huge NXTGN has partnered with digital communications company Sinch to provide businesses in South Africa with digital connectivity services.

The partnership will see Huge NXTGN leverage Sinch’s real-time charging, policy control and messaging solutions to launch its digital virtual network enabler (VNE) platform. The platform will reduce go-live time to just a few weeks, compared to the months traditionally required.

Jason Harmsen, CEO of Huge NXTGN said: “Our growth strategy leverages an innovative digital enablement ecosystem that empowers brands of all sizes to integrate and launch connectivity services aligned with their unique strategies. Our partnership with Sinch underscores our commitment to deliver advanced solutions that support our partners and ensure their success.”

Huge NXTGN is a Johannesburg-based company specialising in digital and embedded communications and is part of the publicly listed Huge Group Limited’s investment portfolio. The organisation's solutions enable businesses of all sizes (including micro, mini and small), to launch virtual network operator (VNO) services on demand.

“By lowering barriers to entry, we redefine accessibility, helping businesses transform their propositions and deliver unmatched value to customers,” explains Harmsen.

South Africa’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) sector has increased significantly and saw a surge with MVNO SIMs in use reaching 4.3 million in 2023. This represents a 51% increase and is projected to reach 10 million by 2028 with a potential rise to 13.5 million.

To date there are 17 operational MVNOs in South Africa. The biggest is Capitec Connect followed by FNB Connect, with both banks having over a million SIMs on their MVNO networks.

The partnership between Sinch and Huge NXTGN will provide scalable, fast and flexible online policy and charging for voice, data, messaging, fraud and security, and digital services solutions to meet MVNOs’ requirements.

The company also provides operators with services to drive A2P Monetisation, firewalls, analytics and reporting solutions for telecom operators.

“This collaboration delivers innovation and improved services to businesses via MVNO offering and we are dedicated to supporting our clients in delivering such advanced solutions and better experiences to consumers,” says Nicklas Molin, EVP, Market Unit International at Sinch.
