Samsung launched its latest Galaxy A series devices - the Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, and Galaxy A26 5G – alongside its new Samsung SOS+ personal emergency service at an event in Johannesburg yesterday. The refreshed range introduces Awesome Intelligence, Galaxy’s first comprehensive on‑device mobile artificial intelligence (AI) tailored for mid‑range smartphones
The Galaxy A series, powered by One UI 7, delivers a range of AI-driven features such as Circle to Search and advanced audio recognition, enabling users to identify music in videos. Each model sports a triple‑camera array anchored by a 50 MP main lens and includes editing tools like object eraser to remove unwanted elements from photos.
All three models are equipped with a robust 5000mAh battery. The A56 5G and A36 5G support Super‑Fast Charging 2.0 (45 W), ensuring all‑day performance, while the entire line‑up now boasts IP67‑rated dust and water resistance—even the A26 5G for the first time.
During the event, Samsung also showcased Samsung SOS+, a personal emergency service developed in partnership with emergency response platform AURA. SOS+ allows users to dial a dedicated SOS+ number in an emergency, share their live location with AURA’s secure system and receive immediate dispatch of assistance. A call‑back from the SOS+ control centre confirms that help is on route.
The service is free for the first 12 months with the purchase of any qualifying device, including the new Galaxy A56, A36, and A26. The Subscription service will be available from 01 May 2025.
“With Awesome Intelligence, we’re delivering an experience that’s smarter, more creative, and more personal to user and fans of the ever-popular Galaxy A series,” said Justin Hume, Vice President of Mobile Experience at Samsung South Africa. “These new devices bring flagship-level AI features and robust security to more people than ever before, while also debuting Samsung SOS+ – a true game-changer for personal safety in South Africa.”
